Stellenbosch About Stellenbosch
Avontuur

Award-winning Avontuur Estate straddles the south western foothills of the Helderberg Mountains between Somerset West and Stellenbosch, and has set out on a journey to realise the farm's undoubted potential as a producer of top quality wines, particularly reds.

The soils, aspect and meso-climate combined with the cool summer southeasterly winds from the nearby Atlantic Ocean, produce grapes of exceptional quality.

You can also enjoy delicious lunches in the cellar or outside.

Bergkelder

One of the most advanced and the first of its kind in the Southern Hemisphere, you will find the 'cellar in the mountain'.

A footpath takes you along the banks of the Plankenburg River and during the harvesting season the tipping of red wine grapes can be observed. In the tranquil atmosphere of our underground bottle-maturation cellar, thousands of bottles of wine are laid down and serenely guarded by old French oak maturation casks.

Guided cellar tours are available in Afrikaans, English, German and French.

Kanonkop Estate is situated on the lower slopes of the Simonsberg Mountains in the Stellenbosch region of the Cape.

It is between Stellenbosch and Paarl and falls in a sub-region called the Muldersvlei Bowl, more commonly known as the "red wine bowl" of South Africa. Kanonkop is arguably South Africa's leading red wine estate and boasts many national and international awards.

The farm is situated on 140 hectares, of which 100 hectares are planted to vine. Besides the solid foundation on which the estate's winemaking principles are based, it is also blessed with ideal soils, cool sea breezes and long summer days, creating the perfect climate for grape growing.
